H.E. Bin Touq briefs Alberta’s ministers of economy and tourism on developments in the UAE’s business environment and tourism infrastructure
Discussions focus on opportunities to strengthen engagement between UAE and Canadian business communities, fostering the expansion of their ventures into new economy sectors & international markets
H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, and Chairman of Investopia, held bilateral meetings with the Honourable Joseph Schow, Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration, and the Honourable Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport of Alberta. The meetings took place on the sidelines of Investopia Global Talks – Alberta, which brought together business leaders, investors, innovators, decision-makers, and entrepreneurs from both countries. The discussions explored avenues for collaboration in new economy sectors, tourism, travel, hospitality, aviation and air transport.
H.E. Bin Touq underscored the continued growth of economic relations between the UAE and Canada across various sectors, driven by the strong support and close attention of both countries’ leaderships. He emphasized the promising opportunities to further strengthen the UAE–Canada economic partnership, particularly in future economy sectors, which will contribute to mutual growth and expand bilateral investment opportunities.
His Excellency briefed the Canadian side on recent developments in the UAE’s business and economic landscape, noting that over the past five years, more than 35 legislative, policy, and economic reforms have been introduced or updated. These include 10 policies in new economy sectors, the introduction of full foreign ownership of companies, and the opening of more than 2,000 economic activities for business. In addition, the UAE is working to enhance its world-class tourism offerings, from landmark destinations to exceptional visitor experiences, while continuously upgrading tourism infrastructure in line with global best practices.
The Honourable Andrew Boitchenko said: “We are pleased to discuss growth, innovation, and investment in the tourism sector with H.E. Abdulla bin Touq. My participation in Investopia and the engagement with our valued partner provided an ideal platform to exchange insights. During the event, we showcased Alberta’s efforts to develop year-round resorts that boost foreign tourism and winter activities, as well as initiatives promoting new luxury and cultural experiences across the province.”
The Honourable Joseph Schow, Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration, said: “I am grateful to Minister H.E. Abdulla bin Touq for taking the time to come to Alberta and see the great opportunity that is created here. Alberta has much to offer, with an abundance of natural resources, a highly skilled workforce, and a focus on growing our economy and making our province the best place to do business. It was an honour to participate in a discussion that highlights the shared vision and goals of Alberta and the United Arab Emirates. We discussed the desire we share to grow our economies and increase the business between our jurisdictions. I am optimistic that there will be great economic benefit that comes from Alberta and the UAE working together and finding opportunities to do business.”
In his meeting with Alberta’s Minister of Tourism and Sport, H.E. Bin Touq discussed the means to enhance joint efforts with the aim of exchanging expertise in various tourism fields, promoting remarkable landmarks and destinations on both sides, and increasing tourist arrivals and flights in the upcoming period. Alberta is known for its Rocky Mountain parks, charming turquoise lakes, majestic mountain landscapes, and UNESCO-listed locations.
The UAE–Canada tourism collaboration continues to grow. Canadian tourist arrivals to the UAE reached 297,176 in 2024, compared to 264,408 in 2023, reflecting an increase of nearly 12.4 per cent. The total number of flights between the two countries reached 21, operated mainly by the UAE’s national carriers.
Additionally, H.E. Bin Touq’s meeting with Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration covered opportunities to support engagement between UAE and Canadian business communities, encouraging expansion of their businesses and ventures in new economy sectors and into foreign markets. This will enable both sides to leverage the advantages and opportunities, the strategic location, advanced infrastructure, and economic policies supporting innovation and investment, thereby forging new economic partnerships.
By the end of July 2025, the total number of Canadian commercial licenses in the UAE increased to 14,676 from 12,321 in July 2024, achieving a remarkable 19.11 per cent growth. Additionally, Canadian commercial agencies operating in the UAE recorded an 8.57 per cent growth over the same period.
