Register Trademark 

This service enables the registration of a new trademark, whereby the registration application is examined and reviewed to verify that the trademark to be registered is not identical or similar to one previously registered or requested from the Ministry of Economy. For trademarks related to the control or examination of certain products, the department shall verify the minister's approval of the same.

Service Fees

  • Trademark and Quality Mark Examination Fees:

AED 750 (Regular Examination)

AED 2,250 (Expedited Examination within one business day)

AED 7,500 for Quality Mark Registration

 

  • Fines will be imposed in the following cases:

1- If the publication fee is not paid within 30 days of receiving the acceptance decision, a penalty of AED 100 per month will be applied, up to a maximum of AED 1,000 per year, calculated for any partial month.

2- If the final registration fee is not paid within 30 days of the objection period ending, a penalty of AED 1,000 per month will be applied, up to a maximum of AED 10,000 per year, calculated for any partial month.

Conditions and Requirements

    • If the trademark owner is located outside the country, the application must be submitted through a registration agent, and a notarized and legally translated power of attorney must be attached.
    • Applicants can apply for the expedited (one-day) examination by paying the application fee of AED 2,250.
    • If the application is rejected, the trademark owner has the right to appeal the decision to the Appeals Committee within 30 days of being notified of the decision via the provided link.

     

Required Documents

    Core Required Documents:

    1. A copy of the trademark in JPEG format.
    2. A copy of the trade license (if the applicant is a company or institution).
    3. A duly certified and notarized power of attorney (if the application is submitted through a registered trademark agent, whether the trademark owner is located inside or outside the country).

    Additional Mandatory Documents Depending on the Type of Trademark:

    1. Goods and Services Trademark:

    • A copy of the trade license, if the application is submitted by a company or establishment.

    2. Control and Inspection (Quality Mark):

    • A copy of the applicant entity’s Articles of Association, including any amendments, if it includes the following:
      • A declaration stating that the mark will be used by parties other than the applicant (non-owner).
      • A declaration confirming that the certification mark certifies the quality, characteristics, or other features of goods or services and does not indicate the commercial source of such goods or services.
      • Documents specifying the standards and criteria applied by the applicant entity to monitor the use of the mark and demonstrate that the applicant operates an approved quality assessment program.
      • A certificate identifying the characteristics of the certified goods or services or those intended to be certified.
      • All documents must be duly notarized, legalized, and translated into Arabic by a certified legal translator.

    3. Geographical Indication (For Government Entities Only):

    • The product specification document.
    • The official decree, law, or legal instrument establishing the applicant entity.

    4. Temporary Protection of a Trademark at Exhibitions:

    • Name of the exhibitor or trademark owner.
    • Exhibition details, including the official opening date and duration.
    • A statement specifying the goods or services for which trademark protection is requested, including their classification.

    5. Collective Mark:

    • A copy of the applicant entity’s Articles of Association, including amendments, provided that it includes:
      • A statement identifying the persons authorized to use the mark and their relationship with the applicant.
      • A document outlining the conditions governing the use of the collective mark for goods and services.
      • A declaration confirming that the applicant entity exercises or will exercise adequate control over the use of the mark by its members.
      • Documentation explaining the criteria and procedures for granting membership within the entity

Steps and Procedures

    Fill in the application details and attach the required documents.

    Pay the examination fee (AED 750).

    The application will be reviewed by the relevant department for a decision, and the applicant will be officially notified of the decision within 20 days from the date of submission.

    If the application is approved, the applicant will be notified of the approval decision and is required to pay AED 750 as the fee for publishing the trademark in the official trademark bulletin.

    The approved trademarks will be published in the official trademark bulletin, which is issued twice a month

    A 30-day objection period shall be calculated from the date of issuance of the trademark bulletin.

    After the objection period ends, the final registration fee of AED 5,000 must be paid, and the trademark registration certificate will be issued within 30 days from the end of the objection period.
