UAE and Syria discuss strengthening economic cooperation and exploring new opportunities across vital sectors
Meeting reviews partnership opportunities across the new economy, tourism and hospitality and infrastructure among others
H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Dr. Mohammad Nidal Al Shaar, Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dubai. The meeting discussed ways to develop economic cooperation and support the expansion of investment partnerships between the two sides.
During the meeting, H.E. Bin Touq highlighted the long-standing fraternal and historical relations between the UAE and Syria. These relations serve as a solid foundation for strengthening joint development and investment projects, thereby advancing growth and enhancing economic integration between the two countries.
The meeting also reviewed opportunities to enhance cooperation across various vital economic sectors of mutual interest, including the new economy, tourism and hospitality, infrastructure, logistics services, entrepreneurship, and advanced industries. These efforts contribute to stimulating economic growth and creating further opportunities for the private sector in both countries.
H.E. Bin Touq said: “The UAE remains committed to investing in and establishing economic and development projects in Syria. This contributes to expanding the areas of partnership between the two countries, supporting sustainable development pathways, and creating diverse opportunities that drive development and enhance economic integration between the two countries.”
H.E. further underlined the meeting’s importance in strengthening the UAE-Syria economic partnership and enhancing communication channels between the Emirati and Syrian private sectors, particularly given Syria’s diverse economic enablers and potential across a range of economic and investment fields. This offers opportunities for the UAE business community to expand in Syria, enhancing the role of the private sector and driving economic development in both countries.
H.E. Abdulla bin Touq also reviewed a range of economic policies and initiatives adopted by the UAE to strengthen the business environment, reinforce the competitiveness of the national economy, and continue its approach of economic openness to the world, along with forging effective economic partnerships with vital markets regionally and globally. H.E. underscored the UAE’s continued efforts to enhance the attractiveness of its markets for new economy projects and companies, and to develop the economic legislative environment. This helps support its competitiveness and further strengthen the UAE’s position as a leading regional and global hub for business and economic activity.
H.E. Dr. Mohammad Nidal Al-Shaar, Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, emphasised that economic relations between the UAE and Syria are witnessing continued growth. H.E. explained that Syria today is moving towards a new phase of economic openness to the world, building on its economic assets and enablers, as well as its strategic location, which strengthens its role in trade and investment flows regionally and globally. H.E. added: “We highly prioritise strengthening the private sector’s role and creating an attractive economic environment for investors, thereby implementing development projects and further supporting Syria’s economic development journey.”
