Ministry of Economy and Tourism signs MoU with Rebound to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in circular economy

Partnership to facilitate the exchange of information and expertise, organization of workshops and the development of capacity-building initiatives

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rebound, a company specializing in circular economy solutions and providing data and analytics on material and waste flows. The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise in the field of the circular economy, support the development of joint studies, and introduce innovative initiatives and activities that contribute to achieving the objectives of the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031. The MoU was signed by H.E. Dr. Maria Hanif Alqassim, Assistant Undersecretary for the Policies and Economic Studies Sector at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and Maryam Al Mansoori, Founder and General Manager of Rebound.

H.E. Dr. Maria Alqassim affirmed that the private sector is a key partner in supporting the UAE’s transition toward a circular economy model. In this regard, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism is committed to strengthening cooperation and building strategic partnerships with companies and institutions to implement and develop circular economy policies, facilitate knowledge exchange, identify challenges, and set priorities across the four key sectors of the circular economy policy: manufacturing, food, transportation, and infrastructure.

Her Excellency added: “Through our partnership with Rebound, we aim to develop sustainable solutions and launch joint initiatives that drive innovation in resource management and create sustainable models that help reduce environmental impact. This will ensure greater efficiency in design, manufacturing, reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling processes, enhance productivity, and promote a balanced approach between economic growth and environmental protection, in line with the UAE Circular Economy Agenda 2031.”

Maryam Al Mansoori said: “We are pleased to sign this MoU with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism to support the implementation of the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031. We look forward to working together to achieve its goals, which include the exchange of expertise and data, the delivery of specialized workshops, and the development of joint studies.”

The MoU outlines several areas of cooperation, including the exchange of information and expertise; the organization of workshops and capacity-building programs; the preparation of studies and reports; participation in relevant conferences and official delegations; and the exploration of future joint projects.

Under the terms of the MoU, Rebound will collaborate with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the UAE Circular Economy Council by providing accurate data and advanced analytics on material and waste flows, as well as supporting initiatives and pilot projects through specialized workshops, contributing to the achievement of the UAE’s national circular economy objectives.

The MoU is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to foster an innovative and sustainable business environment and support companies and entrepreneurs in adopting environmentally friendly economic solutions, contributing to increased investment and enhanced international competitiveness.

Notably, the UAE has adopted the Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031 as a comprehensive framework to guide the nation’s transition toward sustainable resource management and efficient consumption, ensuring a high quality of life for current and future generations.

The UAE Circular Economy Agenda 2031 was launched as part of this policy. The Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in collaboration with its strategic partners, continues to develop a supportive legislative and regulatory environment that encourages investment in circular economy projects and enables businesses to transition toward flexible and sustainable models that support the country’s economic and social development.
