Minister of Economy and Tourism meets Premier of Alberta to discuss enhancing cooperation and economic partnerships in new economy sectors
Meeting explores cooperation in clean energy, hydrogen, agricultural technologies, food security, digital technologies, and AI
H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, held a meeting with the Honourable Danielle Smith, Premier of the Canadian province Alberta, to discuss strengthening economic and investment partnerships and enhancing cooperation in emerging sectors of the economy, particularly clean energy, food security, tourism, digital technologies, space, and advanced manufacturing. The meeting also reviewed opportunities to boost investment flows between the two sides, support innovation, and establish new channels for cooperation between the Emirati and Canadian business communities.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of Investopia – Alberta, hosted by the city of Calgary, which brought together business leaders, senior government officials, and investors from both countries to explore prospects for economic and investment cooperation in future sectors.
During the meeting, H.E. Bin Touq emphasized the UAE’s continued expansion of its economic partnerships with various countries around the world. He praised the progress in UAE-Canadian relations, particularly with Alberta, which is one of the most important economic centres in clean energy and advanced technologies. He noted that this cooperation aligns with the UAE's efforts to enhance the growth of the new economy and achieve sustainable development.
H.E. said: “Our meeting today represents a new step in consolidating the partnership between the UAE and Alberta within the framework of Investopia Alberta. It serves as a valuable platform to explore qualitative investment opportunities and launch innovative projects that support the transition towards a more diversified and sustainable economy, enhancing market and business integration between the two sides.”
Furthermore, H.E. Bin Touq pointed out Investopia’s key role in connecting the business communities in the UAE and Alberta with promising opportunities in the fastest-growing markets, affirming that the outcomes of the meeting will contribute to building long-term partnerships that support sustainable economic growth and the achievement of common interests.
The Honourable Danielle Smith said: “I am honoured to welcome His Excellency Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri to Alberta and showcase everything our province, and the people who call our province home, have to offer our long-standing friends and partners in the United Arab Emirates. Alberta and the UAE are natural partners – we have so many opportunities in front of us to collaborate in energy, food security, cutting edge technology, solutions for emissions reduction, and more. I look forward to working with His Excellency to build on our promising conversation, and explore how we can work together to strengthen our trade and investment ties and secure mutual prosperity for our people.”
The meeting discussed ways to develop economic partnerships between the UAE and Canada, particularly the province of Alberta, in new economy sectors, including food technology manufacturing, modern agriculture, digital technologies, and AI. The meeting also addressed mechanisms for enhancing investment flows and exchanging expertise in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to enhancing the economic cooperation between the two sides.
